Óbuda-Békásmegyer’s natural and social conditions — topography, prevailing windfall, high proportion of forests, the proximity of the Danube, the high proportion of people living in housing estates, the significant transit road and rail traffic and we could even list it — are particularly vulnerable to environmental-economic and social risks caused by climate change. Based on available national, Pest county and capital projections and risk estimates, climate risks are significant in Óbuda-Békásmegyer. This particular situation justifies the local government’s preparation of its own climate strategy and the launch of climate programmes to inform the public. The common objective of the various programmes described in detail in the application is to promote the growth of the population’s climate awareness, as it is one of the prerequisites for the public to understand and support programmes designed to prevent further adverse changes in climate change and to adapt to changes in nature. General objective of the project: Among the KEHOP priority objectives, this proposal aims to achieve the sub-target “Adaptation to the effects of climate change”. This objective is to be achieved by developing its own climate strategy and launching programmes for the general public and local institutions to inform the public and local institutions about climate change and to increase climate awareness. Specific objectives of the project: • After studying the achievements of local climate strategies previously prepared in Hungary and other countries, and taking into account the second National Climate Change Strategy and the climate strategy of Budapest Capital, the local government’s own climate strategy. • The project aims to achieve “knowledge sharing on adaptation to climate change” by launching several different programmes. These include the creation of a subpage on the local government’s website, the organisation of Óbuda Piknik, Hékás Békásékás programs and various climate actions. • In order to “implement wide-ranging awareness-raising programmes”, programmes that aim to achieve a change in participants’ attitudes through direct personal experience and experience are launched. Such programs include eco-adventures, climate circles, fairy tales, study tours and climate fairs. • Since, like the people of the country, the inhabitants of the district know little about climate change, the important objective of the application is to “enhance society’s understanding of climate change”. The media campaigns, the publication of publications, the training of protective women, social care and elderly workers and the Eco-7 event also serve this purpose. In order to implement the Project, the Consortium Members undertake to implement the following activities, in accordance with the activities, milestones, technical, professional content and budget included in the Project: 1) Budapest Capital III.
