The economic, transport and administrative center of Nagyatad South Somogy. The population of the city is 10 700 people, and in its catchment area (Nagyatád district) there are 17 other settlements, with a population of about 26 000 inhabitants. Despite its location in a depressed area, the city is characterised by a higher employment rate, lower unemployment and a more favourable dependency ratio, due to its favourable transport situation and the establishment of a number of small and medium-sized enterprises, which are major employers at regional level. Thanks to the structure of the town of Nagyatád and its terrain features, it offers ideal conditions for cycling. A large proportion of the population of the city uses bicycles to manage their daily business, the further increase of which is hampered by inadequate infrastructure along the main transport routes. Nagyatád is a tourist centre with a thermal bath based on certified thermal water and a beach bath. The baths host 110 thousand guests a year, the number of nights per year is 12,000. The creation of conditions for cycling is also of paramount importance for the further development of tourism. The overall objective of the project is to increase the modal split of bicycle transport in order to reduce CO2 emissions from transport in the municipality of Nagyatád and its catchment area. The specific objective of the project is to carry out cycling-friendly developments in the area of Nagyatád between the eastern and northern city boundaries and along the main road 68 between the southern border of Nagyatád and Ötvöskónyi villages, by modernising the existing infrastructure elements and, if necessary, by building new elements. The main target group of the project is the local population, the employees of businesses operating in the city and tourists visiting the city. Developments to be carried out under the project as self-eligible activities: — Making the transport network cycling-friendly for the entire territory of Nagyatád by designating and building bicycle traffic facilities. The activity focuses on road sections whose traffic data exceeds 2000 EJ/day. — Establishment of a bicycle traffic facility between the wintering and Nagyatád in the catchment area of Ötvöskónyi, as in Nagytád. — The establishment of a cycling route along the national road crossings (681, 6821, 6807) affecting Nagyatád. Technical content of the developments: — Main road 68 between the eastern city boundary (34+ 780 kms) and Szabadság u. to Szarvas u.: management of signage gaps on existing bicycle paths, refurbishment of road markings. — The section between Szarvas u. and Szabadság u.-Honvéd u.: replacement of the current one-sided cycle path on the sidewalk with a directional strip with widening on both sides of the existing pavement. — Between Honvéd u. and Szabadság tér-Árpád u.: refurbishment of the existing bicycle lane. — The section between Árpád u. and Hunyadi u.-Széchenyi Square: replacement of the existing unseparated cycle path with a one-way cycle path on the right side of the pavement, the construction of a one-way cycle path on the left side of the road, and the crossing of the Hunyadi u.-Széchenyi square through cycling traffic. — Section between Hunyadi u.-Széchenyi tér and Széchenyi tér-Baross G. u.: designation of a one-way bike path in the one-way street from the north side of Széchenyi Square. On the south side of the square, on the right side of the pavement, on the western side of Széchenyi Square, the one-way bicycle traffic is transferred to the south side of Baross G. u. — Section between Széchenyi tér-Baross G. u. and 681 roundabout (0+ 000 km): the design of a two-sided cycling path on both sides of the highlighted border. — Main road no. 681 (0+ 000 kms) and Dózsa Gy. u. — Golden J. u.: the construction of a two-sided ‘Copenhagen’ bi-lateral bicycle lane. After the junction at the Golden J. u., a passage to the right side of the road. — Dózsa Gy. u.-Arany J. u. to 68 main road no. north city boundary, roundabout (39+ 022 km): on the path of the pavement on the right side, the two-way cycle path is designed by widening and changing the wear layer. — Highway 68 between the northern city boundary, roundabout (39+ 022 kms) and Ötvöskónyi, Fő u. (entrance of cemetery): design of a bi-directional cycle path on the right side of the road. — Between Széchenyi Square-Kossuth u. and Kossuth u. — Szabó Dezső u.: on the right side of the road, the construction of a two-way bicycle road on the sidewalk nearer to the road. — Kossuth u.–Szabó Dezső u. and Kossuth u.-Gyár u.: extension of the cycle path until the junction at Gyár u.
