Construction of a bicycle road next to Mohács Budapest Highway

The town of Mohács is located in the catchment areas of two major county seats, Pécs and Szekszárd, and due to its border control, it is the main centre of North-South trade. It is located in the country’s good agricultural area along the Danube. The city is located on the edge of the country’s economic and technological core area, on the outer metropolitan ring. It is part of the agglomerating area of Pécs. The complex catchment area of the settlement does not coincide with the administrative boundaries of the district, although the immediate catchment area of the town is mainly the settlements of the district, including neighbouring, easily accessible settlements. Mohács is the third largest city in Baranya County. Its population is steadily declining, backed by high natural weight loss (the ageing index is above the national average) and a negative migration balance. In 2011, the unemployment rate of the total population was 8 % (17 % of the economically active population) and the employment rate is below 40 %. The city has an appropriate network of institutions. The settlement has significant spatial planning power, which can be traced back to its past and traditions. The town has a strong civic presence and a district cultural and tourist centre as well. The city’s management attaches a prominent role to top sports and recreational sports in the settlement. A significant part of the city’s interior is dominated by residential functions. The institutional functions can be linked to the city centre (education — culture — administration) and the sub-centres (Szepessy park area — education, health care, social care and the central part of the housing estate — education, commerce). Commercial and service units were formed in the larger streets. A larger shopping centre was built next to the entrance section of road 57. Industrial functions are fortunately separated from the residential area: they are located along the northern entrance section of road 56 (Budapest Highway) and in the area of an industrial park to the west. An industrial facility in a residential area is the iron foundry alone. It is one of the characteristics of the town with its friendly press houses. Almost all the urban areas of the municipality, with the exception of transport and green areas, are either built-in or intended for installation. The development areas defined in the current urban structure plan, aimed primarily at the placement of residential and economic functions, are connected to areas with similar land use already established. These areas are currently farmed and involve abandonment. In the Integrated Urban Development Strategy, the Municipality of Mohács set the development goals to be achieved by 2023, in line with the urban development concept and the EU2020 strategy. In order to achieve the vision and overall objectives set out in the strategy, 8 medium-term thematic objectives have been set at urban level. These include improving the conditions for sustainable transport, alternative modes of transport and increasing the number of cyclists and pedestrians. The city of Mohács has been awarded the title “Biékpáros Friendly Town 2015”. The aim of the project is to develop the conditions for sustainable, cycling-friendly transport through the construction of a cycle path and to create the conditions for safe transport for all road users between the inhabited part of the settlement and the urban area which can be accessed outside the urban area, and between the workplaces located outside the populated area and the inner part of the municipality. The investment covered by the project concerns one implementation site: road 5121 j (Budapest Highway) between sections 1781-2900. On this section of approximately 1 100 m, cycling is currently provided on the two sides of the road. The paint is already worn off in most parts of the section, due to the condition of the road and the pavement, cyclists can only use this bicycle lane in places. For pedestrians, there is a narrow pavement, which is strongly cut (missing at each place). Therefore, the conditions for safe traffic for all road users are not provided for on the relevant road section with a traffic volume of 6126 E/day. Szőlőhegy, situated north of the city, is not only a wine-growing area or tourist area; in this part of town (the MOFA housing estate and the entire area of Szőlőhegy to the Cselepart recreation area) there are nearly 800 people. The companies located in the Industrial Park in the northern part of the city, as well as the well-established employers north of the city (Kronospan-MOFA, Baranyavíz), as well as the bicycle paths that have recently opened in Vágóhí, provide connections to the planned new cycle paths, so indirectly, this is also a significant traffic generating factor. Easier access to jobs creates opportunities and entices jobseekers, which will drive job creation in a positive direction. The project may also have an indirect impact ...
