The Integrated Urban Development Strategy (ITS) of the City of Dunaújváros sets out both specific objectives at urban level and territorial targets at district level. The objective of this project — “Full reinforcement of the City Centre, the continuation of the comprehensive investments started and the further development of the commercial, tourism and service role of the area” — is achieved, which was defined in line with the criteria set out in the SWOT analysis of the action area. The area affected by the development, as highlighted by the SWOT analysis at the ITS district level, is well equipped for the development of public parks, attractive community spaces and the organisation of programmes. In addition, the institutions located here can open up new opportunities as a venue for the reorganisation of community life, thereby further strengthening the function of the cultural centre of the city. The development of commercial-service infrastructure in the action area can also contribute in a complementary way. In line with the above, the main objective of this project, in relation to the relevant district territorial goal, is to improve the regional competitiveness of Dunaújváros as an economic and educational centre, as well as the quality of life of local residents and visitors to the city through the comprehensive, complex development of the City Centre action area, the improvement of the quality of existing functions and, where appropriate, the development of new functions. As a result of the expansion of functions, it is possible to create an attractive urban environment for businesses, especially in the case of the service sector, to improve the tourist attractiveness of Dunaújváros in the longer term. The complex renewal of urban recreation areas and the rehabilitation of larger green surface systems create favourable conditions for families and young people to spend their free time usefully.
