The position of the Bodrog River was crucial for the development of the city structure of Sárospatak. Historically, the development of the settlement on the right side (the former Sáros Nagypatak) was more intense, and its importance was greater than that of the left, interbodrog-type town of Kispatak. This difference still characterises the coastal area today. The indisputable key position of Rákóczi Castle, the area between the main street in the north and the Bodrog, was thus given a higher rank, which is particularly true for the area under the Water Gate: it is a monumental area, its accessability during use, the function on it affects the lives of local communities much more than the completely unexplored Kalajka area. This central part of the city still plays a community role, but it is of little importance, the use of the affected areas is inadequate, but many factors (architectural, heritage, environment and nature conservation, urban architecture and tourism) need to be taken into account when planning the possible functions. In the framework of the project, comprehensive development and functional planning of the entire area (detailed in points 1.2 a) and 1.2(b)) in the form of a concept plan, and a development site (1.2(a)) and 361 (a) building renovation, refurbishment planning (authorisation plan, if relevant, construction plan) and the implementation of the investment included in the plan are necessary. The building is currently under-utilised and operates as a public toilet and dressing room only during events. Due to its characteristics and its central position in the field, it is appropriate to allow for new exploitation functions. Therefore, as part of the planning programme, the renovation of the building, the development of a direct area outside the building, the creation of the Bodrog Terrace, in which the functions of hospitality are necessary, is justified. It is the task of the designers to make an acceptable proposal for the development of the function during the planning process, and on the basis of the appropriate plans and permits, the renovation of the building is carried out in the framework of the project’s investment.
