Circular Knowledge Development — Northern innovation engines for circular economy

This project is an initiative to structurally organise innovations in the circular economy from Friesland in the Northern Netherlands. Several companies in the Northern Netherlands are looking for new ways of innovation and collaboration. There are now 25 companies affiliated to VCF to give concrete effect to the circular economy. These themes identified from promisingly identified themes: agriculture, plastics, residual currents, construction, salt cultivation, food, and water. In this project, companies will work together with government and knowledge institutions in a working process with proven and new methods to achieve circular innovations (the innovation drivers), ultimately resulting in new activity and employment. Objectives and results The main objective of this project is to stimulate and structurally shape innovations in the circular economy in the northern Netherlands. In total, the results of this project can be summarised as follows:•By the meetings (conferences, symposia, circular café), increased knowledge development and innovation capacity of more than 2600 participants from 200 unique organisations (is the estimate)•Supporting 60 to 90 unique issues from organisations through the Circular Acceleration Window•Initiation of 14 new partnerships (from existing platforms, expansion and new platforms)•Development of 60 innovative cooperation projects (innovation engines) with 240 collaborating organisations•Growth activity with 12 new companies•Positive effect on employment in the Northern regionThis is achieved by 4 project activities, divided into 4 work packages:1)Knowledge exchange and inspiration2)Knowledge & Amp; method of development3)Innovation engines4)Project management &Amp; communication For the above activities we assume a work budget of EUR 2,465,000 for the next 3 years. For this we ask for EUR 986,000 grant via the call for Knowledge Development. The project is organised, coordinated and driven by the Society of Circular Friesland (VCF). This project plan describes these activities, explaining the organisation and the investment/financing required. The plan therefore also serves to substantiate the requested subsidy from SNN.The Vereniging Circulair Friesland is the manager of the project and the applicant and beneficiary for the funding to be obtained. The Association was formally established on 26 February 2016.
