ASTRON/IBM has developed an innovative microserver with high computing power and low energy consumption. In this project, a consortium of Northern SMEs and knowledge institutions will validate and demonstrate the commercial potential of this microserver for data centre applications, as a data center-in-a-box and for single-card applications in Smart Industry and Smart Grids. This can lead to high-quality activity in the Northern Netherlands with a turnover potential of EUR 12 million in the fifth year and a direct employment effect of 15 FTE. The potential emissions are around 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year in the Netherlands, corresponding to 3.5 % of the Dutch climate target up to 2020.
