For arable growers and the processing industry, knowing an up-to-date and expected yield from the harvest of a specific field is important in order to organise their production process more efficiently. This project is about getting the latest state-of-the-art knowledge and technology about the factors that influence the yield of the harvest. The objective of this project is to develop and test a proof-of-concept crop forecasting module at field level that can consult crop growers and processing industry worldwide as SaaS (Software as a Service) solution. In this context, it is essential to acquire basic knowledge about the soil, above- and underground growth of crops and the latest data technologies needed to achieve this. This project greatly contributes to a better knowledge position of the project participants, including several SMEs.The knowledge development project focuses on two zaken:1.Nieuwe knowledge about lack of influence factors of soil. There is currently lack of knowledge of some soil factors affecting harvesting such as: what is the role of soil moisture deficiency, the effects of organic matter or soil mineral balance?2.Developing knowledge about new technology/data sets. The technology around us is developing at a furious pace. Think of both quantitative and qualitative improvement of satellite data, improved climate data, new available open data and globally available data of calculated soil temperature and moisture balance etc. We would like to examine the effects of this new available technology on the predictability of yield.
