Chemport Industry Campus Emmen

In light of smart specialisation, the main triple helix partners in Emmen have opted for a focus on green chemistry for several years. The chemical cluster has been advancing for years and is gaining competitiveness through various projects. These include the development of compostable rope, but also mixed filaments that can be used in many ways, including in 3D printers. The activities focus mainly on and around the emmtec Industry &Amp; Business Park. In addition, there is a good collaboration with NHL Stenden, Drenthe College, Hondsrug College, University of Groningen. This does not mean that the sector, and especially the cluster in Emmen, is active without any challenge. There is insufficient cooperation between the individual successful companies and educational institutions, too little attention to joint innovation, and above all, the physical environment does not make cooperation more accessible. This project therefore aims to transform the central green chemistry area into a fully-fledged campus, where companies and knowledge institutions work together on the cement between the stones. The aim of the project is to create a concrete, visible and inviting open innovation environment that fosters collaboration between companies, between companies and knowledge institutions, and with partners outside the region. Given the challenge of investment capacity in the sectors and the growth of sufficient talent in Emmen, a step forward is needed. This project consists of five building blocks (work packages):1)Developing open innovation pathways between companies, and companies and educational institutions;2)A strong impetus to the physical environment in order to transform the business area into campus;3)A comprehensive investment in smart ways to attract and retain students, trainees and companies; 4)Conserving talent through an impulse in entrepreneurship, innovative forms of education and acquisition of companies;5)Developing an organizational engine whose central objective is to bring the campus to the next phase of maturity, technological relevance and physical business card. A clear form has been chosen to improve or realise a number of conditions for Open Innovation. That of an (innovation) Campus: a physical but also virtual place where education and business co-operate closely. With a solid profile that is nationally but also internationally recognizable. This Campus is dedicated to innovation, training talent and (future) staff. The coat rack for the positioning of the Campus are the unique excellent knowledge, development and production possibilities in the field of polymers and composites. So unique that international cooperation with top institutes and top companies becomes the norm. This project has a clear northern Dutch signature. Under the flag of Chemport Europe, the cooperation in this project in the Emmen-Groningen axis is also sustained, including through the participation of the University of Groningen in this project. In addition, almost ten companies provide around 2,000 hours to contribute to the exchange of knowledge between educational institutions and companies, facilitating the acquisition of new businesses, developing new education modules by business, and creating an experience on campus.
