The aim of this knowledge development project is to develop and exchange new knowledge on anaerobic fermentation as a cost-effective method for obtaining new green building blocks for functionalised polymers based on sugars from biomass streams. The knowledge development and knowledge exchange within this ERDF 2019 knowledge development project has been deployed from a unique collaboration between experts in the green chemistry of the most renowned knowledge institutions in this field, making it possible to bring technology for anaerobic fermentation and chemical synthesis of green building blocks to a higher level. The joint development and exchange of new industrially applicable knowledge (TRL 3-4) explores possibilities for unlocking and developing innovative synthesis pathways to new functionalised chemicals and polymers that can compete with fossil polymers in existing applications in terms of properties and cost or have new properties of interest for use in high-quality market segments.
