Development of cytokine filter technology

In the event of tissue damage or serious infections caused by bacteria or viruses (including COVID-19), the white blood cells form too much inflammatory protein called cytokines. As a result, organs become damaged. We want to gain knowledge and develop technology for an innovative filter concept that selectively captures cytokines. The concept consists of plastic granules (microbeads) where a precisely designed piece of DNA, a so-called aptamer, will be linked to it that specifically recognises and binds cytokines and thus extracts from the circulating fluid. This filter can be used to purify a patient’s blood or to purify a liquid used in donor organs
