Sweden’s export and investment strategy states, among other things, that Sweden’s exports will increase, that more small and medium-sized enterprises will export, but also that Sweden’s innovation leadership will be used to strengthen the industry’s export capacity and international competitiveness. All this is based on the Government’s ambition for Sweden to have a leading position in terms of both the Agenda 2030 work and the achievement of the Paris Agreement’s goals. In the same strategy, a great focus is placed on cooperation for an increased investment in exports. One part of this work is the focus on Regional Export Cooperation (RES) to make it easier for companies to get the right support in their internationalisation process. Kalmar County has a low export maturity and comes low in various investigations and compilations regarding exports. An export survey carried out in Kalmar County in 2020 shows challenges with a low willingness to internationalise the companies. Given the current Corona pandemic and the conditions prevailing in the county’s industry, the overall aim of the project is to move the county from a lower degree of internationalisation, innovation and renewal to a higher level. The aim of the project is that more companies in Kalmar County have started internationalisation efforts and increased interest in internationalisation in the county’s companies. Increased collaboration between RES actors and attitude-inducing activities lead to more companies having access to sustainable business offerings in an international market. The project also builds a good basis for continued collaboration between the county’s RES actors. Region Kalmar County and Almi Kalmar County have together developed a comprehensive model for a coordinated way of working with internationalisation in the county. This model takes a holistic approach to internationalisation issues and forms the basis of the RES Kalmar County project. The focus is on the four strands of action: attitudes, actions, specialisation areas and large companies — networks. The project builds on and develops the RES base operations in order to get a transfer and a changeover in the county’s companies.
