Arnhem has a large density of residents who are registered as jobseekers. The density of the population with benefits is high. This is also noticeable in the Spijkerkwartier district. In light of this, the residents’ initiative De Blauwe district economy, the municipality of Arnhem and other partners have conceived the plan to start a Buurtbaanbureau Spijkerkwartier on the basis of a tried and tested reintegration project. The aim is to optimise the social impact of work resulting from the inclusiveness and sustainability challenges in the neighbourhood by allowing neighbourhood residents with a distance from the labour market to carry out this work in order to (i) reduce their distance from the labour market and (ii) increase their employment prospects (and outflows from the benefit). In addition, the effort is to develop a methodology on the basis of which the concept of the Buurtbaanbureau becomes divisible, scalable and expandable, so that it can also be used in other neighbourhoods (inside or outside Arnhem).
