Municipality of Oosterhout

The Urban Management Unit is responsible for the management and maintenance of the public space and the collection of household waste in the municipality of Oosterhout. The average age of the employees working here is increasing. As employees age, these tasks give rise to problems that lead to production loss or, in some cases, even downtime. By investing in sustainable employability, the unit management aims to ensure that employees remain sustainable and reduce absenteeism. Recent research has shown that employees need more career opportunities and guidance. With this project, employers and employees are working together to improve sustainable employability. A personal approach is central to this. The manager explores together with the employees where the individual needs lie. While for one person will focus on changing the lifestyle, the other needs more to increase the possibilities to pass on to other work. This can be done within the organisation, but there may also be opportunities outside the organisation. Together, agreements are made which actions are needed per person. A personal budget has been made available for the implementation of these actions. In order to properly integrate this new method into day-to-day operations, the project is accompanied by an external project supervisor. This act not only acts as a contact point for the employees to help them take up their personal actions, but also as a sparring partner for the executives. At the same time, the municipality shows that it attaches great importance to working towards sustainable employability.
