Leeuwarden, as the centre of the labour market region of Friesland, has applied for a European subsidy (ESF) on behalf of all schools of the Secondary Special Education and the Praktijk Education (ESF). In the period August 2017 to August 2018, the schools, together with the Frisian municipalities, will direct a total of approximately 1,300 (ex) pupils to work as regular as possible. The schools focus on a combination of internships, occupational orientation and industry-oriented training. Together with the municipalities, a follow-up process will be drawn up on a tailor-made basis. This can be a learning job, sheltered work place, subsidised work or a care trajectory after which the municipality can mediate the young person to the labour market. For this approach, the Frisian educational institutions can claim a total of over EUR 1.1 million of ESF funding.
