In recent years, participants have paid a great deal of attention to the sustainable employability of workers. Often the question was: where does the employer’s responsibility start and end and where does the worker start and end? Implicitly, employers knew the answer: as with the client, less ‘care for’ and more ‘take care of’. Employers emphasise the importance of shared responsibility and want to encourage and strengthen the self-government of workers through good employerhood, so that they remain sustainable. That fits in with the spirit of the time. The participants also want in the HRM landscape a paradigm shift from ‘care for’ to ‘care that’, so that workers get more/again ‘grip’ on their own working life and sustainable employability. They want to ‘strengthen their own direction so that they participate sustainably’.
