Both Skåne and Kalmar counties have, for a long period of time, had a low employment rate. At the same time, there is a clear demand for qualified labor in different sectors. Clearly, a significant portion of the vacancies currently in demand in the public and private sectors require individuals with higher education. At the same time, a larger proportion of the population in Skåne and in Kalmar, who are foreign-born women, have the lowest rate of employment even though many of these women already have university level education and already possess the appropriate professional qualification. Moreover, this particular population is the least represented in the labor market, even in Västra Götaland region. In addition to formal academic education, foreign-born women in Sweden need other skills in order to increase their chances of entering the labor market, particularly knowledge of the Swedish language and networks in their professional field. Through the project Come in! we build on experience from a previously highly successful mentoring project and develop a method for a more efficient and faster integration of foreign-born women to the labor market. Within the framework of the project Come In! a strategy will be developed so that the method will easily be applied across different organizations in the whole country. The focus of the model will be unemployed foreign-born women with university degrees. The project will receive input from different contributors who will provide internship placements which will match the women’s professional profiles. This process will help women to apply to future job vacancies created by these contributing organizations. Through the project Come in! the target group - foreign born women - will receive support in the form of opportunities to practice the Swedish language in their own professional field, will have access to professional networks and internships with work tasks that match their education and professional experience. At the same time, contributors will have the opportunity to recruit foreign-born women who are part of the Come In! project. Support from the Swedish Public Employment Service, Arbetsförmedlingen, and the organizations who provide internship opportunities in combination with tailored-training, networking and internship, will equip foreign-born women participants with the necessary tools to enter the labor market. Another expected outcome of the project is that the contributing organizations create a multicultural and inclusive working environment and a well-developed recruitment process in order to attract foreign-born women. Through a joint collaboration with local, regional and national actors, Region Skåne will develop the mentorship model in order to positively influence the current situation of the foreign-born women in the Swedish labor market.
