E-courses hospitality Sörmland

This project strengthens the hospitality industry in the region of Sörmland and Sweden as a whole, through education and skills development, which makes the hospitality industry more competitive in the long run. Employees strengthened their competence and position in their profession as well as on the labour market. By developing the hospitality industry and destinations in Sörmland, values are created for those active in the hospitality industry, but also for other companies, municipalities, citizens and regions. The hospitality industry is mostly made up of smaller businesses, with few employees, many young, newly arrived migrants, foreign-born, with lower levels of education. This type of small businesses often finds it difficult to send staff to be trained, but the need to train staff is still there and is something that would strengthen both the individual and the companies' competitiveness. With the digital technology existing today, education and socializing online have become natural and is used both privately, and for companies, schools and community functions. The courses that are being conducted will strengthen and develop the companies and their employees. The course content will be shaped to match the circumstances that the different companies and players in Sörmland's hospitality industry have linked to the requirements that the external world has placed on the hospitality industry now and in the future. The companies and employees who survive and who are swift in changing their business have an opportunity to strengthen their role through education and skills development. The program for the course is flexible and has built in modules in the e-courses, so that it can easily be updated and developed, for example, to match the businesses different stages and at different knowledge levels. Results can be measured in the digital learning platform, which has already been launched, and followed up with analyses to update the content. During the analysis phase, it is necessary to identify which functions may be required, which are not available today. As e-courses are more time- and cost-effective, the setup of the project can also be divided into different courses with, for example, certain training for owners and managers in the company, and other courses for the different roles in the company. This to fulfil several different educational needs within each company. Using the project to develop different courses will simultaneously build a knowledge library, which can be used in other projects in in the future. The hospitality industry is now in a position where it needs to rapidly increase the demand, however this will take time and require new innovative ways to work. When switching up the operation, older methods in a renewed form can be useful. The older methods can be used in a new innovative way with new ideas and ways to work to reach new target groups. Whom the companies previously may not have focused on. Here, the education should benefit from the upcoming staycation trend. Because of restrictions many do will not have the opportunity to travel abroad, as before. However, this target group are happy to find explore and travel with their family in their local area. For example, people with disabilities, people with a foreign background and other target groups who usually travel and spend their holidays abroad can be mentioned. The challenge lies in attracting these target groups and make them want to visit Sörmland and the home market. This requires an adaption and change in both the way operations work, the packaging of products and the communication thereof. Existing products can be adjusted and targeted to new target groups, which opens up for a new way of product packaging and pricing. The efforts made in the e-courses must match the staycation trend and see to the companies' and employees' needs in learning on how to adapt to this new reality. Through the above activities, the hospitality industry strengthens its competitiveness, both on a company and individual level. The activities can be applied and promote a more agile way of working, creating flexible business models based on predominate market conditions. Sörmland's hospitality industry and its employees' increased knowledge of scenario planning, markets, target groups, sales through digital innovation will lead to faster changes and restructuring. The project will professionalize the industry, its business models and support the expansion towards different target groups and customers. In addition, the project should have contributed to increased awareness and implementation in equality, accessibility and inclusion, as well as keeping the horizontal perspective throughout the project process.
