THE NATIONAL CENTRE FOR ONCOLOGICAL ADROTHERAPY (CNAO) IN PAVIA IS ONE OF THE ONLY SIX CENTERS IN THE WORLD AND UNIQUE IN ITALY ABLE TO TREAT CANCERS WITH PROTONS AND/OR CARBON IONS, REPRESENTING AN ABSOLUTE EXCELLENCE IN THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM. THE CNAO FOUNDATION HAS AMONG ITS PURPOSES ALSO THE CARRYING OUT OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES. THE CENTRE HAS BEEN CONCEIVED SINCE THE BEGINNING WITH THREE TREATMENT ROOMS, EXPANDABLE TO FIVE, AND AN EXPERIMENTAL SALA TO CONDUCT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES WITHOUT HINDRANCE AND WITHOUT BEING HINDERED BY THE CLINICAL ROUTINE. THIS EXPERIMENTAL ROOM CAN BE CONSIDERED MULTIMODULAR IN ORDER TO BE ADAPTED TO THE NEEDS OF USERS WHO CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES RANGING FROM RADIOBIOLOGY, TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF BEAM MONITORS, DOSIMETERS, TO RADIATION HARDNESS STUDIES.
