THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT ÂSMART DETECTION OF EMERGING WATER CONTAMINANTSÂ IS A PROCESS INNOVATION AIMED AT IDENTIFYING AN EFFECTIVE PROCEDURE FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS ANALYSIS OF A MIXTURE OF EMERGING, KNOWN AND UNKNOWN XENOBIOTICS (INCLUDING DEGRADATION PRODUCTS). RESEARCHERS WILL EXPLOIT THE CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TARGET MOLECULES AND ADOPT STATE-OF-THE-ART ANALYTICAL STRATEGIES BASED ON MASS SPECTROMETRY PROCESSES SUCH AS THE UPLC/GC/ASAP HRMS QTOF PLATFORM. THIS INSTRUMENT IS EQUIPPED WITH A SYSTEM (UPLC/FASTDDA) THAT IS ABLE TO IDENTIFY, DETERMINE AND QUANTIFY KNOWN COMPOUNDS AND CHARACTERISE UNKNOWN COMPOUNDS. YOU WILL START FROM MIXTURES PREPARED IN SILICO AND YOU WILL COME TO TEST THE EFFICIENCY AND ANALYTICAL SENSITIVITY ON WATER SAMPLES. WE WILL QUANTIFY AND CHARACTERISE THE CONTAMINANTS OF GREATEST INTEREST AND ESPECIALLY THEIR DEGRADATION COMPOUNDS IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE POSSIBLE TOXICITY AND TO LAY THE BASIS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT
