Modern technologies for monitoring land covered with waste in order to restore their initial use

The main objective of the project is to identify and remediate the illegal landfill of waste in the cross-border area in order to restore the initial land use. For this purpose, drones equipped with state-of-the-art modern technology for the detection of illegal waste dumps will be used, and after the sanitation will be carried out analyzes of the soil and water health if a contamination is suspected. These determinations will be done on-site as well as in the laboratories of partner 4 (BAUSVM from Timisoara) where microbiologigal and elemental analysis of soil samples will be performed. The common challenge within the project is to locate, sanitize and maintain the sanitary land in the cross-border area in order to maintain a protected and healthy environment. The common objective of the project is to find illegally located waste in the cross-border area, to eliminate them, to assess the possible contamination of soil and water in order to restore land to its initial use. This extensive project aims to protect the environment by restoring the land in the border area helping to improve compliance with EU waste legislations in order to meet the EU targets. Our project will help to strengthen the local administrative capacity of Moldova Noua and Zrejaning in order to improve the coordination and implementation of EU legislation, especially with regard to waste management and environmental protection. The main outputs of the project are the detection of illegal waste dumps, their rehabilitation, the initial use of the landfills, if the soil and water assessments are free of contamination and the possibility of identifying potential polluters. Beneficiaries of the project's results are the inhabitants of the cross-border area who, due to the protection of the environment, will benefit from a significant increase in their quality of life, creating new jobs, making contacts, dialogues between public institutions located in the cross-border area in order to solve common environmental problems, a multinational partnership between public institutions - research-higher education and a climate of confidence of the population towards the authorities. Due to the intense pollution of the environment in the cross-border area, it is considered opportune and necessary to address this issue in common. Through our project we come to meet the offer of a solution to identify and localize fast the illegal dumping, knowing that illegal dumping affects the quality of life for citizens who live near the dumping locations and to help returning the land back to its initial state. The novelty of the proposed project consists in the use of modern, innovative technology in the detection of environmental problems in the field by using the drones equipped with special video cameras, the processing, utilization and storage of the collected data, as well as the application of complementary measures that result at the end in returning the land to initial use.
