The project aims at improving the flood prevention and flood protection capacity of Baja and Novi Bečej and their surrounding areas through crucial infrastructural developments, technology-based disaster prevention tools, planning activities and training, as well as awareness-raising activities. Due to their geographic location, flood protection is of high importance both for the Municipality of Baja and the Municipality of Novi Bečej. Both municipalities are responsible for protecting defined sections along their rivers and they would like to increase the efficiency of flood protection. Addressed issues are: physical infrastructure in poor condition; low technology flood prevention; lack of trainings and low level of awareness. The project is composed of structural and non-structural activities that are grouped in four outcomes that build on one another strongly. The project’s four main building blocks are: Outcome 1: Improved physical infrastructure and technical equipment; Outcome 2: Newly introduced and implemented smart solutions. Activities belonging here will result in a functioning, integrated decision support and flood forecast system for Baja and Novi Bečej; Outcome 3: Construction and technical plans for improved flood protection from both project partners/Beneficiaries; Outcome 4: Trained civil protection commissioners and improved awareness of affected inhabitants through training and communication activities. These activities will be supported by sound project management of both project partners/Beneficiaries. The primary target group includes: those inhabitants, businesses and other organizations in Baja and in Novi Bečej which are directly affected by the planned project activities. The second target group includes the local inhabitants, while the third target group includes the civil protection commissioners in both settlements.
