Development of the River Danube for better connectivity of the Euroregion Ruse-Giurgiu with Pan-European transport corridor №7

Ruse municipality and Giurgiu municipality, in partnership, created this project to be with focus on establishment of measures for well-connected common cross-border region with safety transport on waterways. The project presents a complex of activities, which are addressing to ensure safety transport through the improvement of waterways in Danube river. Thus a better water infrastructure will be achieved which is pledge for overcoming the unsatisfactory condition of the current one. Overview of the total area The partners aim to achieve the overall objective through implementation of measures as follows: 1. Giurgiu Municipality will implement construction of a quay in Giurgiu municipality, through arrangement of a sector of Channel Sfantul Gheorghe, near the natural link with Danube, in order to improve connectivity with the pan-European corridor for waterway transport. 2. Ruse Municipality will realize rehabilitation of the piers of the passenger terminal Ruse center and improving the navigation conditions of the three berths. Thus a revitalization of the transport water infrastructure between Giurgiu and Ruse will be achieved. These main activities will result in establishment of good conditions for safety transport through the improvement of waterways in between the partners. The estimated project budget is 7 973 261,83euro.
