The project “Connection of “green” and “blue” ways in natural heritage territories” contributes to the preservation of the natural heritage of Ełk County and Birštonas Municipality and strengthening tourism potential of both regions. The aim of the project is the development of cross border regions through efficient and more sustainable use of natural heritage by creating of new eco transport ways, solutions and connections between them. The project involves both Lithuania-Poland cross border regions investing in natural heritage resources to create the infrastructure for a new tourist attraction and to change tourists' and local inhabitants' habits to use a bike as a local or daily transport, development of tourism promotion solutions and experience sharing between institutions of the project partners. Additionally the project’s results will be manifold: the greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by use non-motorized means of transport, especially the bicycle, the use of renewable energy solutions for a lighting of routes will enlarge the safety and reduce the energy consumption from electric networks, both regions will be enriched and mutual cross-border promotion will be enhanced.
