Alpine Winter Tourism Territories demonstrating an integrated framework for a low-carbon, high-impact, and resilient future

Pioneering Sustainable Practices in Alpine Winter Tourism

Overview: The "Smart Altitude" project aims to enable and accelerate the implementation of low-carbon policies in winter tourism regions across the Alpine Space. By developing a comprehensive decision-support tool, the project assists stakeholders in transitioning towards energy-efficient and climate-resilient tourism practices. This initiative addresses the significant energy consumption and environmental impact associated with winter tourism, which generates an annual turnover of €40 billion in the Alps. Alpine Space

Objectives:

  1. Facilitate Energy Transition: Develop and implement a step-by-step decision-support tool to guide energy transition in winter tourism regions.
  2. Demonstrate Effectiveness: Showcase the tool's efficiency through application in four Living Labs within the Alpine Space.
  3. Engage Stakeholders: Involve policymakers, ski resort operators, investors, and tourism organizations in adopting sustainable practices.
  4. Promote Replication: Encourage the replication of successful strategies in 20 additional Alpine territories.

Key Features:

  • Living Labs: Practical application and testing of low-carbon strategies in real-world settings to validate effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Active involvement of various stakeholders to ensure comprehensive and inclusive approaches.
  • Policy Integration: Alignment of project outcomes with regional and national policies to facilitate broader adoption.

Target Audience:
