Tourism is an important economic sector, because it greatly contributes to the development of local economy, the creation of international relations, and to knowing and understanding different cultures. However, access to touristic services and products is not always realized along the principle of equal opportunities: people living with different disabilities often have limited or no access to these services. The aim of the so called „Tourism4All” movement is to make the touristic destinations accessible for all people in order to ensure equal opportunity. The goal of barrier-free tourism is to reduce or totally abolish the barriers that disabled face when traveling, so that the touristic adventures may be accessible equally for everyone. The primary target group of the project is the disabled people: including the mobility-impaired, the visual- and hearing-impaired for whom we aim to open up the touristic offers and adventures of the Baja-Sombor area. Besides the disabled as the main target group, the secondary target group of the project is made up of the elderly people (65+) and people with a baby carriage. According to estimations, the number of people who are limited in activity can – in a broad sense – reach 30% of the population. Therefore, the project aims to develop the barrier-free tourism in the Baja-Sombor cross-border area, to ensure equal access. To this end, on the one side of the area, in Baja special vehicles (barrier-free minibus, special bikes) will be procured, the holiday building of the municipality on the Petőfi-island – which is going to be the scene of touristic programs and thematic routes - will be reconstructed and made barrier-free, furthermore guided tours, events for the diasabled and workshops, trainings for the service providers will be organised. In the meantime, on the serbian side of the cross-border project, in Sombor an additional opportunity is given to develop further the kayak centre which was built in the course of an earlier Interreg project: this time special vehicles will be purchased (also barrier-free minibus, motorboat, catamaran, kayak trailer). Also, a mobile application will be created to present the barrier-free touristic offers of the area.
