The area of Iron Gate in Podunavlje has been inhabited for centuries and it relies on the Danube as the source of the existence of civilizations. Various civilizations have left a significant mark on this region, ranging from prehistoric times through the Roman Empire, medieval civilizations to modern times. . All these civilizations have left a significant cultural and historical heritage. Among the most significant legacies of past civilizations in the area of the Municipality of Kladovo and Drobeta Turnu Severin are certainly the fortresses from the Roman and medieval period, of which the fortresses, "Severin" and "Fetislam" definitely stand out. “Fetislam” fortress. The fortress was built by the Ottoman Empire in 1524 and consists of two parts - "Small fortification" or „Small town“ and "Big fortification" or “Big town”. The small fortification, comprising the upper and lower riverside, was built in 1524, as a start point for Turkish invasion of Severin and Erdelj. The Big fortification was built in the period from 1717 – 1739; it had six stone bastions and palisade walls. Its average size is 480 x 260 m. “Severin” fortress. Built in 1230, it had an overwhelming importance from the military point of view. In 1524 it is attacked and destroyed by Turkish troops led by Baliteg-Pasa. Severin Fortress or rather the ruins of the fortress are located in Dragalina park from Drobeta Turnu-Severin. Throughout the Middle Ages the most important city in the area is Severin Fortress, situated in a strategic point, which for three centuries has played a particular role as a connection gateway between the eastern and western Europe. The overall objective is to contribute to greater demand for local tourist brands in Romania-Serbia cross-bored area (specially "Iron Gate cross-border area), through the establishment of a new, common, cross-border tourism brand "Secrets of the medieval fortresses " which will be based on the integration of the fortresses "Severin" and "Fetislam" in a unique tourist offer, as well as on the tourism valorization of all the "stories" and "secrets" that are related to these two fortresses. For a newly established brand, the target group of visitors will be analyzed in detail on the basis of adequately defined needs and demands of target groups and an adequate and effective promotion of the newly established cross-border tourism brand will be conducted as well. The change you are going to realize in relation to the current situation is reflected in the establishment of strong cross-border cooperation between the municipalities of Kladovo and Drobeta Turnu Severin for the development, promotion and sustainable tourism valorization of cross-border tourism brand, based on medieval fortresses.
