Today, there are multiple challenges driving the transition to sustainable growth (climate change, aging energy infrastructure, a growing scarcity of resources, current patterns of resource consumption and the continued existence of significant social inequalities). The aim of creating the Upper Rhine Cluster for Sustainability Sciences is to improve scientific excellence and the relationship between science and society in this field in the Upper Rhine region.
