Protection and sustainable use of water recreational facilities in border cities in Ketrzyn and Kaliningrad

The main objective of the project is to increase the protection of purity of the water reservoirs in the cross-border area. The activities implemented within the project will have a considerable influence on improvement of rainwater drainage and hydro-technical infrastructure, cleaning of the water reservoirs and development of the territories for recreational purposes as well as development of cross-border cooperation in the environmental field. The main activities within the project involve the reconstruction of the storm water drainage and road infrastructure around the Kętrzyńskie Lake. The Polish partners will also prepare technical documentation – a water and legal survey, which will enable the reclamation of the Kętrzyńskie Lake in the future. The activities of the Russian partner in Kaliningrad include the reconstruction of hydrotechnical constructions and improvement of the sanitary-ecological state of the side stream of the Gołubaja River as well as the improvement of the sanitary-ecological status and development of the coastal zone of the ponds and the water channel of the Lake Letnieje. Cross-border cooperation is necessary to solve similar problems and achieve common goals relating to cleanliness of the water reservoirs in the cross-border area: surface waters from Kętrzyn and Kaliningrad flow to the Vistula Lagoon and consequently to the Baltic Sea.
