Rybno commune and Gusev’s cross-border initiative for the protection of the Baltic Sea by reducing pollution from sensitive and valuable natural areas and promoting a circular economy

The main aim of the project is to protect the ecosystem of the Gulf of Gdansk, the Vistula Lagoon and the Baltic Sea by limiting pollution of sensitive and valuable natural areas, as well as promoting the closed circulation economy in Rybno Commune and Gusev City District. The Polish-Russian cooperation concerns infrastructural and soft activities aimed at the environmental protection in the cross-border area. The implementation of the project by Rybno Commune and Gusev City District will contribute to the elimination of sanitary pollution. The achieved project measures will enable to lead sewage not directly into the environment, but through the sewage system to the treatment plant. The planned construction works include the extension of the sanitary sewage system in Rybno Commune with the total length of 4,6 km and construction of a sewage network with the total length of 11,9 km with a sewage treatment plant in Prioziornoje in Gusev District. The project also includes a laboratory research service on the possibilities of effective management of sewage sludge from small wastewater treatment plants - i.e. composting with the use of components available for both beneficiaries. The planned range of soft activities will increase ecological awareness of residents.
