Medical Infrastructure for the Development of Excellence Surgical Services in the Cross-border Area

The project is being proposed by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Victor Babes" Timisoara and the General Hospital "Sveti Luka" Smederevo, partners in another 2 projects succesfully implemented so far through the first call of proposals (RORS-8 and RORS-9). The project aims at the development of the surgical services throughout the cross-border region. Its objectives include: - the development of an instrastructure in healthcare (the building of the Pius Branzeu Center) through the construction of 2 additional levels. - the increase the quality of surgery services in the region by providing access to training courses for the Romanian-Serbian cross-border specialists. It is estimated that during the implementation period, training courses will be provided for 180 specialists. Beyond the implementation period, the center will provide training courses for 480 specialists per year. - performing screening procedures for the Romanian-Serbian cross-border population aiming to identify pathologies in their early stages of their development. The number of beneficiaries will reach 10.000 persons. Such volumes were processed before by the project partners (including in projects RORS 8, RORS 9 and RORS 11). - performing a minimum of 100 arthroscopy surgeries. These procedures were never performed before in Smederevo due to the lack of adequate equipment. During the implementation period, a number of 100 patients will benefit from such surgeries (free of charge). - the increase the medical training level of the population by providing training courses free of charge. The number of beneficiaries will reach 5.000 persons. - Development of the existing network of specialists in surgery (with already 1600 members) by attracting new members (specialists) and consolidating the current collaborations. The network will serve as a tool for exchanging good practices in medical field. Appart from the 1600 members that are already members of the Center's network, the project targets a merge with the network of specialists in surgery created through projects ROS - 8 and RORS - 11. Information added on 2020-05-12, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the corona virus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): The project aims at the development of the surgical services throughout the cross-border region. Main objectives include: - the development of an infrastructure in healthcare the construction of 2 additional levels; - performing screening procedures aiming to identify pathologies in their early stages of their development; - training courses free for medical staff and development of the existing network of specialists in surgery.
