MEDIWARN aims to develop a system for monitoring the vital parameters of patients through the use of a peripheral sensory system. The project capitalizes the knowledge deriving from the method used up to now, the EWS (Early Warning Score), overcoming the limits imposed by the lack of personnel that reduce welfare performance. The data will be sent to a central station equipped with a dedicated computer on which a mathematical model will be implemented. Such model will provide interpretative elements on the clinical status of the patients and its evolution before the deterioration of vital functions triggers the alert according to the EWS criteria. In this way, unlike EWS, health personnel will be promptly informed about the clinical conditions of each patient because the computer assigned to the department, equipped with artificial intelligence, will provide a picture of the evolution of the patient's clinical status. This information will also be sent to mobile devices (tablets) held by medical personnel. Information added on 2020-06-05, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): Virtual bio sensors created by the project now allow healthcare staff to monitor patients suffering from the disease at a distance.
