Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Europe's Public Buildings
Overview: The REBUS project, funded by the Interreg Europe programme, aimed to assist local authorities across eight European countries in improving the energy efficiency of public buildings. By raising awareness and developing skills among civil servants and public sector staff, REBUS provided the necessary knowledge to design and implement Energy Renovation Paths (ERPs) for public buildings.
Objectives:
- Enhance Awareness: Increase understanding of potential energy savings and efficient resource use among public sector employees.
- Develop Energy Renovation Paths (ERPs): Equip local authorities with guidelines to plan, implement, and monitor energy-efficient renovations in public buildings.
- Facilitate Knowledge Exchange: Share successful experiences and best practices among partner regions to inform policy improvements.
Key Features:
- Context Analysis: Conducted assessments to understand existing regional procedures for renovating public buildings, identifying experiences and needs.
- Good Practice Identification: Highlighted successful initiatives, such as Tuscany's 'RESHospitals' project, which aimed to create zero-emission hospitals through renewable energy use and eco-efficiency principles.
- Action Plans: Assisted participating regions in developing tailored plans to drive policy improvements based on interregional learning.
Target Audience:
- Local Authorities: Municipalities and regional governments responsible for public building management.
- Public Sector Employees: Civil servants and staff involved in building maintenance and energy management.
- Policy Makers: Officials tasked with developing and implementing energy efficiency policies.
Impact:
- Policy Enhancement: Informed improvements to policy instruments related to energy efficiency in public buildings.
- Capacity Building: Strengthened the capabilities of public sector staff to undertake energy-efficient renovations.
- Energy Savings: Contributed to reduced energy consumption and operational costs in public buildings.
