Prevention and removal of the effects of climate change through the purchase of vehicles and fire-fighting equipment to fight forest fires

Main objective of the project is to strengthen cooperation of fire brigades operating on both sides of the Polish-Russian border, thus causing a more effective response to threats resulting from first fires as a consequence of progressing climate change. Three regions – Warmińsko-Mazurskie Region, Podlaskie Region and the Kaliningrad Oblast have large areas of forests which causes risk of fire spread between these regions, creating common tasks for emergency services. As a result of the project, participants will improve qualifications and their joint ability to work out decisions to combat and minimalize negative consequences for environment caused by the forest fires. All partners will improve their knowledge related to the response systems by exchanging good practices. The project activities contain joint training exercises and purchasing of 15 specialized vehicles and equipment by all partners. The Regional Headquarters of State Fire Service in Olsztyn will buy 2 vehicles with 3000 m of hose line, equipped with crane loading ,3 light fire and rescue reconnaissance vehicles and 1 SUV specially equipped for the command and operational group. The Regional Headquarters of State Fire Service in Białystok will purchase 2 light fire and rescue reconnaissance vehicles, while GBU KO "Detachment of the State Fire Service and Provision of Civil Defense Measures" will purchase 1 heavy fire-fighting truck with hose carrier function, 1 medium fire-fighting truck, 4 light fire and rescue reconnaissance vehicles and 1 command car,. Additionally, the Regional Headquarters of State Fire Service in Białystok will purchase 7 mobile water tanks of 13m3 capacity which enables faster and more effective response to forest fire emergencies. Implementation of the project will directly contribute to the improvement of the environment and living conditions of the inhabitants of the regions affected by the project. The project will be helpful in creating an innovative cooperation network between the partners in order to build new, durable structures of action in the field of cross-border security and crisis management system.
