Project “Modernisation of infrastructure in the port of Giurgiu — Ramadan area, Danele 1,2”. The port platform, utilities, access routes’ has as general objective to increase the use of Giurgiu port, located on the TEN-T core network, contributing to the development of transport, environment, energy infrastructure and risk prevention to European standards, with a view to creating the prerequisites for sustainable, safe and efficient economic growth, objective of LIOP 2014-2020, Priority Axis 1 “Developing a multimodal, quality, sustainable and efficient transport system”, Specific Objective 1.3 “Increasing the use of waterways and ports located on the core TEN-T network”. The project was developed in the context of national and European development efforts, with available European funds as the basis for concrete actions. Giurgiu Port is located on the left bank of the Danube, between 489 and 497 km, 60 km from mun. Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Strategically, Giurgiu Port is located on the Trans-European Central Transport Network (TEN-T Core). Giurgiu Port is located at the intersection of the Danube River and Corridor IX, which is on the north-south route between the Baltic countries and Bulgaria, Greece and Türkiye. Over the years, the Giurgiu — Ruse Bridge in Bulgaria has been a basic link for rail and road transport services. This border crossing point recorded significant traffic of foreign goods and lorries, representing one of the first 4 border crossing points for rail freight. Giurgiu is also one of the Danube ports close to Bucharest, which gives it geographical importance. There are 4 sites in Giurgiu Harbour for the mooring of barges and river vessels, namely: the Ramadan area, where mooring berths are arranged for passenger ships and ships/barges carrying grain, ballast, coal and general cargo; B) Plant Channel, where mooring berths are arranged for ships/barges carrying cereals and general goods; C) Cioroiu Port, where the oil terminal is arranged; D) Giurgiu Free Zone, where general goods and containers can be operated. The project consists of the following categories of works in Giurgiu Port, Ramadan area: development of concrete port platform with rainwater collection and discharge network, including hydrocarbon separators, rehabilitation of the tread of quay cranes, rehabilitation of railway lines between crane runway threads, construction of enclosure (garde and access gates), construction of a removable warehouse for storage of chemical fertilisers.
