Increasing road safety on roads with 4 lanes by separating traffic directions with concrete road parapets

The overall objective of the project is to increase the level of road safety and, implicitly, to decrease the number of road accidents, in line with the European Union’s target of reducing the number of road accidents by up to 50 % by 2020 as well as the achievement of the target imposed in the National Road Safety Strategy for the period 2016-2020. The specific objectives of the project are: • a 30 % reduction by the end of 2023 in the number of road fatalities on 4 lane roads where concrete parapets are located; • reduce by 5 % by the end of 2023 the number of road accidents recorded on the 4-lane roads on which concrete parapets are located; • installation of 104.800 km of concrete road parapets by 2022 inclusive. The implementation of the investment objective “Increasing road safety on roads with 4 lanes of traffic by separating traffic directions with concrete road parapets” contributes to the increase of road safety of the road network under the management of CNAIR S.A. by decreasing the number of road accidents. The project contributes to the achievement of the specific LIOP result indicator for Priority Axis No 2, OS 2.5: “2S15 — Deaths from road accidents per million inhabitants” by reducing by 30 % by the end of 2023 the number of road fatalities on the 4-lane roads on which concrete parapets are located. Thus, the project will contribute to the achievement of the objectives and specific results of Priority Axis 2 — “Developing a multimodal, quality, sustainable and efficient transport system”, Specific Objective 2.5 (OS) — “Increasing safety and security in all modes of transport and reducing the environmental impact of transport” and is eligible for funding under the 2014-2020 LIOP, through the European Regional Development Fund, Priority Axis no. 2.
