The overall objective of this project is to reduce the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion by increasing access to the basic infrastructure in Lugoj municipality by creating sewerage networks and individual connections in Lugoj, in Herendesti — Bocsei district. The investment proposed by the project will respond to the needs of marginalised urban communities ZUM 2 which will have as effect physical revitalisation (ensure of utilities, modern and adapted to the needs of vulnerable people), economic (improvement of housing conditions for vulnerable people that have as effect on medium and long term the increase of employment, healthy and productive workforce) and social (direct impact on health status; improving the school performance of children; increasing the employment rate among adults; avoid situations of risk and social exclusion). In the long term, this project will integrate with the investments that will be made following the implementation of the LOCAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY GAL “STRATEGIE RESPONSABILITY COMMUNITY FOR LUGOJ MUNICIPIUL”, financed through the CLLD mechanism, within the public-private partnership that Lugoj Municipality has established and financed. Together with the investment plan within the Local Development Strategy placed under the responsibility of the community, this project can offer solutions in an increasingly diverse and complex context, aiming at innovation and achieving results that bring lasting changes in the community. The project will also lead to the completion of the LOCAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY and to the implementation of the Regional Operational Programme, aiming at integrating the development needs into the entire public programmes and policies of Romania, as a Member State of the European Union. The general objective also contributes to solving the serious problems that the Herendeşti-Bocşei district currently has: residents do not have access to a centralised wastewater sewage system. Domestic wastewater is discharged directly into the soil. Wastewater infiltrates groundwater, causing adverse effects on soil quality and human health. Also, during the summer, the smell in the community is unbearable, being the poorest neighborhood of Lugoj. The result of this investment will be an expansion of domestic sewage infrastructure, contributing to diminishing trends of social and economic decline and to improving the standard of living in urban areas, reducing the degree of depopulation of the urban area and the urban divide.
