Integrated approach for socio-economic integration of vulnerable groups in Vidin Municipality

The project aims to create an effective and innovative model for sustainable socio-economic integration of people from vulnerable groups on the territory of Vidin Municipality, aimed at increasing the quality of life, reducing poverty and stopping the transmission of poverty across generations. Our concept is based on a cross-sectoral approach and a set of complementary activities aimed at solving the existing problems faced by persons and families from vulnerable groups, combined with the possibility of an individual approach tailored to the needs and wishes of the target groups. The project includes a number of activities for sustainable labour market integration, including activation measures, motivational and vocational training, the provision of subsidised employment, as well as the promotion of entrepreneurship and self-employment. An integrated community social and health service will be created in active partnership with the non-governmental sector, which will enable health promotion, better quality of life and care for the elderly and people with disabilities from marginalised groups. Permanent integration requires activities to overcome negative stereotypes towards the Roma community and promote the cultural identity of Roma as a full part of the civil society in Vidin and in Bulgaria. Socio-economic integration is a process that requires sustained and focused efforts towards children and families. It is necessary to significantly reduce the share of drop-outs from education and to work with parents for their active participation, including a “school for parents”. The project includes a wide range of additional activities with students at risk of dropping out, additional training for children and students for whom the Bulgarian is not a mother, improving the educational environment in their schools and kindergartens. There are also measures for career counselling to ensure a successful transition from education to employment.
