As part of their competence in Water Management and Flood Prevention, and following the guidelines of SAGE Hérault (Schéma d’Aménagement et de Gestion des Eaux), the Communities of communes Vallée de l’Hérault and Clermontais wish to implement the second phase of river works on a priority watercourse, the River of Hérault. These works, defined in the Multiannual Programme of Restoration and Maintenance of the Hérault River (PPRE Fleuve Hérault) are the subject of a Declaration of General Interest and a Prefectural Order for a period of 5 years, authorising these works until February 2024. In order to ensure consistency and homogeneity of the work, the Community of communes Vallée de l’Hérault and the Community of communes of Clermontais have formed a group of commissions of which the Community of communes Vallée de l’Hérault is coordinator. The challenges involved in the implementation of this work are both hydraulic, morphological and ecological. They should make it possible to improve the flow conditions of the watercourse, to promote flood capping and sedimentary transport, to combat erosion by recharging the sectors lacking in materials, and to improve the ecological functions of riparian afforestation. In total, 20 km of watercourses on the Hérault River, left bank and right bank combined, are affected by this restoration and maintenance work.
