Sass – Surface Analysis and Structuring System

This project consists of funding structuring scientific research equipment as part of the academic research project called SASS: Surface Analysis and Structure System. The various Clermont research laboratories involved in this project are in an approach of excellence in the development of innovative materials for fields as varied as health, energy, electronics, lighting or the environment. To this end, understanding the organisation of the material is an essential brick in order to improve the properties of these new materials that can be declined in terms of performance and thus remove certain technological locks to optimise their use. Thus, this project aims at the acquisition of an ultra-empty device allowing the structuring of surfaces and their in situ analyses by last generation electron spectroscopy. This method of characterisation is non-destructive, well adapted for the study of the chemical and electronic structure of materials, knowledge essential to meet the challenges of the development of new devices. The acquisition of this equipment opens up unprecedented prospects of fine understanding of the organisation of a wide variety of materials for the research laboratories of Clermont Auvergne University.
