Electron microscopy has an essential role to play in the excellence of biomedical scientific research in Occitania. Access to this type of technology is now essential for high-level scientific research in the field of health. Applications are therefore numerous in basic research in the field of health for the understanding of cancer processes, genetic diseases and/or validation of 3D models. The Occit’EM 34 project will enable the acquisition of a SEM scanning microscope that will analyse large areas and/or large volumes of very high resolution samples. This equipment will have the ability to automate and accelerate data acquisition. The electronic imaging of 3D volumes also looks very promising in addition to classical methods, for applied research in personalised medicine and regenerative medicine, allowing, for example, to study in detail the structure of tumors and their associated tissues, the effect of molecules of therapeutic interest or to characterise biobanks.
