The operation concerns the development of the Pont de Vaux, a structure dating from 1926, which allows the RD967 to cross, from north to south, the un electrified railway tracks of the Reims-Laon line, Boulevard Gras Brancourt and Place Victor Hugo in the commune of LAON. The bridge of Vaux is located on the route of the Regional Plan of Véloroutes and Green Ways. In addition to the repair work that will ensure its safety and sustainability, the choice has been made to propose the development of sidewalks and cycle paths to best respond to the changing modes of travel of users. These elements offer an alternative to the car with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (expected modal carry-over effect). The health crisis has highlighted a willingness to change road users in the way they travel in the city, for business trips or for leisure. This traffic lane is important for the lower city and access to the upper town of Laon since the removal, for security reasons, of the bridge that connected the railway city to the station district. The same applies to flow generating poles (future covered market hall (Place Victor Hugo), schools, businesses, shops, hospitals). This book proves to be strategic to energise the heart of the city and to promote soft mobility.
