As part of the development of the Grand Parc Garonne, aiming to transform the Île du Ramier into a vast green lung accessible to all, Toulouse Métropole is considering the creation of footbridges dedicated to pedestrians and cycles, to pursue its ambition to transform the Île du Ramier into a vast urban park, connected to riparian neighbourhoods and the metropolitan cycling network. The Empalot bridge project aims to connect the Empalot district on the right bank of the Garonne (Avenue de Lattre de Tassigny/rue Mombiola) to the Daniel Faucher sports complex on the island of Ramier (to reach the north at the foot of the Ramier villa), and thus contributes to the strengthening of soft mobility in urban areas, in particular the network of continuous and secure facilities dedicated to travel along the Garonne (crossing of the upper arm of the Garonne, between the Garigliano bridge in the north and the bridge of the Poudrerie in the south, flying over Professor Camille Soula’s Allée to settle through the ripisylve of the island’s bank). The architectural and landscape design of the bridge makes it possible to highlight the Île du Ramier, the future green lung of the Metropolis, which is part of a contemporary evolution of the urban landscape of Toulouse, marker of the ecological transition policy pursued by Toulouse Métropole. It integrates with the natural landscape of the river banks and reflects the reconciliation between the city and its natural environment.
