The city of Saint-François has been investing for nearly 20 years in a dynamic aimed at obtaining the Grand Site de France label. Since then, numerous studies have been carried out, as well as fund-raising work to affirm the urgent need for measures to protect the biodiversity of the site. New exchanges with project partners enabled the city to focus on the urgency of the field and the need to plan a two-year biodiversity conservation plan. In order to coordinate actions on the ground, the City Council approved the recruitment of a coordinator. The action of the field coordinator should ultimately lead to the development of green tourism that is more environmentally friendly. This is a first step in the overall operation. It is foreseen that each partner associated with the operation, in this case the NFB and the Coastal Conservatory, within its area of competence, will be able to carry out a part of the operation. The stated objective is to move forward gradually by involving all the actors concerned at each stage of the project, thus allowing to build a collective and shared approach that will eventually lead to the award of the Grand Site de France label. The benefits of this operation will benefit the entire regional territory since to date, no overseas department is labeled Grand Site.
