Gessica – Risk factors associated with cancers in Guadeloupe: Environment,Socio-Economic Context – WP Dynamic Operation of Pesticide Pollution Environment

Guadeloupe combines risk factors linked to its ethno-geographical Caribbean anchorage, specific environmental risks (pesticides) and a socio-economic level, which although higher than the rest of the Caribbean is lower than that of France. These factors can interact and cause specific levels of risk and social inequalities in the onset of cancers. The Gessica project raises the question of factors influencing the development of certain cancers in Guadeloupe, in particular environmental and socio-economic risk factors. The overall objective of the Gessica project is to improve the surveillance and knowledge of cancers in the territory through a multidisciplinary approach combining epidemiology, clinical research, geography and the humanities and social sciences. To do this, it proposes to articulate information from the cancer registry and the Karubiotec biological resource centre in an unprecedented way with data on social inequalities and environmental risks.
