Biological, ecological and geological restoration of the discovery trail of the Pointe Caracoli of the National Nature Reserve of the peninsula of the Caravelle

The National Nature Reserve of the Caravelle peninsula (RNN29) is a national nature reserve located in Martinique. This project involves the restoration of a section of the hiking trail located on the right of Pointe Caracoli. In this area, located mainly on the domain of the Conservatoire du Littoral and partly in the coastal state forest, it has been observed for many years a phenomenon of soil erosion by runoff of water, accentuated by the frequenting of hikers. At the same time, there are strong environmental and biodiversity conservation issues: fossilised and sedimentary geological formations of the island and endemic species. A prior technical study was carried out by the NFB Martinique under the work of the Conservatoire du Littoral. Thus, this study proposes the realisation of the project in two phases: — 1st phase of renaturation of the former stretch of path degraded by civil and ecological engineering measures; — 2nd phase of creating a new route by: * option 1: partial bypass of the degraded section * option 2: complete bypass of the trail avoiding the degraded section. This funding request relates to the costs of Option 2 for which the NNR Management Committee voted favourably as a second intention.
