In order to respond to the significant increase in attendance at Tourcoing station (passed from a local station to the status of the metropolis’ second station after Lille Flandres/Lille Europe and to facilitate accessibility and intermodality, the Metropolitan Council voted to create a multimodal exchange hub. The project will make it possible to organise the bus offer, ensure the continuity of cycling and the organisation of car traffic and parking to secure and encourage travel in soft modes and public transport For this exchange hub Mel provides in particular for the requalification of the public spaces adjacent to the station: development of a large forecourt dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, development of a bus station in its own site, reorganisation of roads adjacent to the place Semard in order to secure travel in gentle modes and limit the place of motor vehicles. The work will start in June 2020 for a duration of 18 months.
