Renovation and tourism and cultural enhancement of the Cerdon Copperery (Ain)

The Department of Ain has decided to carry out an ambitious project to renovate and enhance tourism and culture in Cerdon’s Coivrerie, which it has owned since March 2018. This building, protected under the Historic Monuments, is of particular heritage interest in the heart of the Pays de Cerdon, and is an element of strong attractiveness of this territory, alongside in particular the Soieries Bonnet in Jujurieux and the vineyards of Cerdon. The buildings will be renovated and enhanced respecting their history and archaeological traces. To give a contemporary dimension to this project, the construction of a new building is planned. Intended for the reception of the public, this construction will be installed voluntarily at a distance from the old buildings to bring them space and light, and ensure a plunging view of the old factory by the development of a forecourt. Devices of augmented reality, restitution of sets and various audiovisual processes will support an innovative scenography to offer an immersive visit within the copper factory of Cerdon in operation and thus allow the discovery of the functioning of the machines and the know-how of the workers, while also addressing the human and social dimension of the company. The project aims to give the site a new life thanks to new mediation technologies to tell its story and position it as a marker of the territory.
