Creation of a “soft mobility” route to enhance the old tram lane between Grenoble and Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte

The project consists of upgrading the old tram track, operated until 1951, connecting Grenoble to St Nizier du Moucherotte over a distance of 20.6 km. It then made it possible to reach Villard-de-Lans, via Lans-en-Vercors. Today, the route remains and the route of the old tram lane was rehabilitated in 2012 to become a pleasant route for hikers, walkers, mountain bikers and riders in connection with the Grande Traversée du Vercors. A specific markup connects Grenoble station to Saint-Nizier du Moucherotte using the old tram lane. The valorisation of this route to excursionists and tourists will create a valley elevator and strengthen the link between the Metropolis and the mountains. It will allow the creation of a new tourism product, in particular green tourism with the possibility of roaming routes from the exchange hub of the Metropolis thanks to a close partnership with the Regional Natural Park of Vercors (PNRV) and the Community of Commune of the Massif du Vercors (CCMV). These three institutions wish, in fact, to build a global project to promote this route based on its historical and heritage potential and better highlight the role of the old tram lane around the mobility of yesterday and today.
