In the context of the global changes that are rapidly changing natural environments and threatening the balance of ecosystems, the regional natural parks of the Massif des Bauges, Chartreuse, Vercors, Baronnies Provençales and Verdon have teamed up to characterise the functionalities and uses of two strategic frameworks on a national scale but also for their territories and interstitial spaces: the framework of mature forests and the framework of pastoral areas. These two frames are home to crucial ecological issues, the heart of a rare biodiversity. They are also the support of traditional human activities, such as pastoralism or logging, which have been shaping them for centuries. With the changing climate, the return of the wolf, and changes in practices, the balance of these frames is threatened. At the scale of the 5 territories involved in the project and the interstitial spaces that separate them, a joint reflection over 2 years, to better characterise the functionalities of these frames, will allow to pool the development of an observation protocol, as well as an operational programme over 5 years. These protocols will also be a way of objectiveising the environmental and human issues present and guiding public policies.
